Job Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Financial Operations Manager to lead financial stewardship and strategy across a portfolio of engineering and professional services projects. Reporting to the Director of Financial Operations, this role blends strategic leadership with direct oversight of project-level financial management. The ideal candidate will partner closely with project managers, practice leaders, business development, and contracts teams to ensure project financial health, compliance, and profitability from initiation through closeout.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the senior finance business partner for multiple engineering services practices, managing financial planning, forecasting, and analysis at both project and portfolio levels.
  • Lead the development and refinement of detailed project financial models, including pricing, cost forecasting, margin analysis, and risk assessments.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance monitoring for individual projects, collaborating closely with project managers to track progress, manage variances, and identify corrective actions.
  • Drive monthly project and practice-level financial reviews, preparing and presenting KPIs such as gross profit, utilization, revenue, and cost-to-complete.
  • Manage project revenue recognition, accruals, billing, and financial close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review, negotiate, and manage project contracts and change orders to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with company policies and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with business development and practice leadership to develop pricing strategies and support bids, proposals, and RFP responses.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance project financial management, reporting, and forecasting accuracy.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Financial Operations Managers, Analysts, and Project Coordinators to build a strong project finance team.
  • Partner with legal, procurement, and risk teams to support risk mitigation including contract terms, insurance, bad debt, and compliance issues.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in project finance or project controls roles within global professional or engineering services organizations.
  • Proven ability to manage financial operations and performance for multiple engineering or technical service projects simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, engineering, or related field.
  • Expert proficiency in MS Excel and financial modeling with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Deep knowledge of project accounting, revenue recognition, contract compliance, and financial risk management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with experience presenting to senior leadership and clients.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing and developing finance professionals in a project environment.
  • Strong understanding of pricing strategy and professional services financial management.

Additional Information:

  • Travel up to 10% may be required for office visits, training, conferences, or client meetings.
  • Hybrid basis is 4 days in the Hanover office.

Salary:

  • Up to $150k plus bonus
